Smoothtalker cell phone car kits:
Full
install hands free car kits for bluetooth and non-blue tooth
cell phones and PDA:
Smoothtalker brand cellular hands free car kits are made for
two applications: bluetooth and non-bluetooth. We manufacture
traditional style hands free car kits that require professional
installation into a vehicle, car, boat RV or truck. This type
of cell phone carkit is normally used for cell phones and
PDA's that either have no bluetooth capability or the person
acquiring the cellular car kit wants a traditional full install
hands free carphone speaker kit even though his or her phone
may be bluetooth hands free capable.
Some
cell phones have bluetooth capability and traditional output
connections for hands free functions. We offer hands free
kits in both styles, hard wire and bluetooth, for some cell
phones and PDAs. Example: Blackberry 7250, Blackberry 7290,
Blackberry 7100r, Motorola V3 Razr, Motorola V710, Motorola
E815.
All
of the Smoothtalker cellular hands free speakerphone carkits
have privacy handsets, cell phone holders or cradles that
are specifically designed to hold the model of cell phone
or PDA with which they will be used and all of the Smooth
Talker full install hands free car kits must be used with
an external cell phone antenna. These kits can be ordered
to include 3-watt boosters and amplifiers or repeaters. All
of the Smoothtalker full install hands free kits, wether the
hard wire or bluetooth type, are designed and optimized to
work with the specific cell phone or PDA for which they are
ordered. This means that if the cell phone car kit is ordered
for the Blackberry 7290, it will work best for this device
and if the phone holder is changed for use with another phone
or PDA in the future, the hands free kit may operate with
the new device but it will not necessarily sound as good as
it does when used with the phone or device for which it was
designed.
Self
install Bluetooth hands free kits:
Smoothtalker brand Bluetooth hands free in-car kits can be
purchased in a configuration that does not require proffesional
installation. These kits differ from the full installation
hands free kits by using cell phone holders and cradles that
get their power to charge the cell phone or PDA from the cigarette
lighter power outlet of the vehicle and do not use an external
cell phone antenna. This type of cell phone car kit is designed
for the urban cellular phone user that wants hands free capability
while simultaneously charging his or her phone battery but
does not require the power of external cellular phone antenna
or 3-watt booster.
Note:
the cell phone holders and bluetooth hands free control junction
boxes for the Smoothtalker self install hands free kits are
designed for specific models of bluetooth cellular telephones
and PDA's and all Smoothtalker hands free bluetooth car kits
are optimized for use with the specific bluetooth capable
cell phone or PDA for which they are purchased. The nature
of bluetooth capable hands free devices is to work with any
and all bluetooth capable mobile phones and PDA, however speaker
volumes, hands free microphone sensitivity, echo and voice
quality will differ when used with different blue tooth mobiles.
Self
install car kits with privacy handset: Smoothtalker
car kits with privacy handset only do not have any hands free
functions. These car kits consist of a cellular phone/PDA
holder that is connected to a privacy handset. The holder
is plugged into the DC power outlet of the car, RV, boat or
truck and the handset is plugged into the phone holder. When
a call is initated or comes in the user picks up the handset
an converses through the handset. The cell phone or PDA remains
in the cell phone holder, continues charging during the call.
Car kits with privacy handsets only are also available with
connectors that can be used with an external cell phone antanna
and 3 watt booster amplifier or repeater.
Self
install cell phone and PDA holders for use with any brand
of bluetooth hands free in-car kits: Smoothtalker
cellular phone and PDA holders and cradles can be used with
any make of bluetooth headsets and bluetooth hands free car
phone kits. Smooth Talker hands free holders and hands free
cradles are available in several configurations. Some car
kit holders are designed to be installed and wired to the
vehicle's fuse panel, some cell phone car kit holders plug
directly into the CLA of the vehicle, some car phone holders
have external cell phone antenna connectors and can be used
with an external cell phone antenna. All of these holders
are designed foor use with a specific cellular telephone or
PDA and the install type include rotational mounting hardware
for mounting to hands free holder mounting brackets. Smoothtalker
cell phone holders with external antenna connectors can be
used to add an external cell phone antenna or 3-watt booster
amplifier or repeater and will turn the cell phone or PDA
into a 3 watt cellular powerhouse that will increase signal
and extend cellular range substantially.
About
Smoothtalker Bluetooth cell phone car kits:
Overview: what is bluetooth?
Bluetooth is the name given to a wireless standard that was
developed by Ericsson. The name Bluetooth was taken after
a mythical Viking God and it seems that the developers at
Ericsson, which is a Swedish company, thought it would be
a good name when they were developing the standard.
Bluetooth communications operate wirelessly on the 2.4 Gigahertz
frequency band. This band was established as a "free
use" frequency spectrum by the various world governing
bodies that allocate "free use"and "pay for
use" frequency spectrum. This means that a company that
develops and produces devices that operate in this band does
not have to purchase a license to use this frequency spectrum.
Many devices that operate in the 2.4 Ghz band have been available
in the market, including home wireless telephones, laptops
and computers that have wireless capability and "centrino"
chips built in.
Bluetooth is simply a standardized way of using this frequency.
It allows a manufacturer of one type of device, a cell phone
for example, to communicate wirelessly with another type of
device made by another manufacturer like a headset, laptop
computer or car stereo. In other words if one has a bluetooth
capable phone from Motorola and they purchase a car from BMW
that has a bluetooth capable car stereo, then the phone and
stereo will link wirelessly and conversations can occur hands
free through the car stereo when the user is in the vehicle.
The same holds true if you have a bluetooth computer through
which one can establish a cellular band data connection with
their cell phone etc. There many present and future applications
for which bluetooth is beneficial.
Bluetooth as it relates to cellular
communications and hands free functions:
Bluetooth capable cell phones and data devices like Treo and
Blackberry devices can use bluetooth capability to communicate
hands free either by using a bluetooth headset or bluetooth
hands free car kit. The bluetooth headset will allow the user
to hold a cell phone conversation without having to touch
the phone or connect the headset to the phone using a wire.
Hands free communications are virtually automatic in vehicles
that have bluetooth stereo systems. A person can simply link
his or her phone to the stereo and cellular voice communications
will take place through the car stereo speakers and built
in microphone in the vehicle. One does not need to purchase
a hands free kit and have it installed into the vehicle to
have hands free capability. For vehicles that do not have
bluetooth capable stereo systems, a bluetooth hands free kit
can be used in place of a traditional hard-wired hands free
kit in a vehicle. Bluetooth in car hands free kits come in
two forms; simple "plug and play" kits that incorporate
the bluetooth circuitry, speaker and microphone in a single
body that is usually plugged into the cigarette lighter and
"install type" hands free kits that have separate
junction circuit box, speaker and microphone. The difference
between these two types of kit is that the "install type"
hands free car kit usually has better voice and microphone
quality than the "plug and play type".
Bluetooth as it relates to cellular
data communications: Bluetooth capable
cell phones and data devices like Treo and Blackberry devices
can use bluetooth capability to communicate with laptop and
other computers and use them to transfer data, like phone
books and contact lists, wirelessly back and forth from the
phone to the computer or use the phone to establish a data
link with the cellular network and use the computer for functions
email or web-browsing. In other words, no data cable between
the phone and computer is not required and no software to
enable the phone and the computer to communicate is required.
Bluetooth enables a fast and simple connection between any
bluetooth enabled cellular phone or device and any bluetooth
enabled computer.
Advantages and
disadvantages of bluetooth with cellular phones and devices:
Bluetooth and Data:
Advantages:
Using bluetooth link between a cell phone and computer for
data connections on a cellular network is far more convenient
than traditional cable methods and there is no disadvantage.
When to bluetooth and wireless data, it is the ideal way to
link computers and cell phones or PDA devices.
The same is cannot be said for hands free communications using
bluetooth car kits and headsets.
Disadvantages:
None
Bluetooth and Hands free:
Advantages: Bluetooth enabled car stereos
and vehicles have the obvious advantage that no kit must be
purchased or installed for the user to have hands free capability.
Bluetooth hands free kits that are purchased and installed
into a vehicle will work with all bluetooth enabled phones
and when one changes phones or uses two different model bluetooth
phones a new hands free kit does not have to be purchased
and installed.
Disadvantages:
Bluetooth enabled vehicles and bluetooth hands free kits do
not come with a cell phone holder for a specific cell phone
or PDA and this poses several disadvantages:
a-the user does not have a convenient place to dock the phone
and view the phone display.
b-the phone battery will not charge unless the phone is plugged
into a cigarette lighter power supply
c-the phone battery will be used faster because the phone
uses battery power to establish a bluetooth link, stay linked
and uses extra energy during a call because it must use power
for the bluetooth connection with the carkit and the cellular
call.
d-the cell phone is not connected to an external antenna or
booster and signal is not as good when compared to a traditional
kit with holder.
e-if a user leaves the bluetooth link between the phone and
car kit connected and is close to the vehicle but is not in
the vehicle and a call comes in, the phone will only ring
in the car kit and even if the ring is heard and the call
is engaged by the user, the conversation will be heard through
the phone, it will be audible in the car only. For example,
a person comes home, puts their car in the garage, takes the
phone out and sets it on the kitchen counter and a call comes
in, the user cannot use their phone unless they go back out
the vehicle very quickly. If the phone is far away from the
vehicle then the bluetooth link is inactive, however some
phones and kits can stay linked over relatively large distances
as far as 30 to 100 feet. The distance that a bluetooth link
will cover varies between cell phones, brands of bluetooth
car kits and location of the bluetooth phone and car kit.
The only way to be sure that a phone bluetooth link is not
active (when in close proximity) is to de-link the phone from
the bluetooth kit. Linking and de-linking a phone from a kit
is an obvious disadvantage over a traditional kit.
f-Bluetooth hands free kits are more expensive than traditional
hands free carkits.
How to overcome
bluetooth deficiencies with Smoothtalker bluetooth hands free
kits:
Bluetooth hands free kits have several disadvantages when
compared to traditional install kits and Smoothtalker brand
bluetooth address the issues and solve the problems.

the hands free microphone will have noise reduction to match
the phone and reduce road noise and there will not be any
echo to the user or caller, a common problem that plagues
many other bluetooth hands free kits. A smoothtalker bluetooth
hands free kit will work any bluetooth cell phone or PDA like
all bluetooth hands free kits but it is guaranteed to perform
correctly only with the phone or PDA for which it is designed.
